Wallace Island Rescue

The Coast Guard reports rescuing two people who were involved in a boat collision Sunday afternoon on the Columbia River near Westport, Oregon. A helicopter was sent from the Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria a few minutes before 10 pm Sunday night, after the 20 year-old woman and the 29 year-old man sent a text message to family members, saying that they were stranded on the island. The couple says that they had been out on the river in a 15-foot boat that got side-swiped by another vessel. They were able to get to Wallace Island and then texted for help. The Coast Guard sent the helo and another rescue boat; the helicopter found the couple first, and then took them back to Westport, where they had a car parked. The other boat that was involved hasn’t been found.
