Work starts today on an emergency project to replace water mains in the portion of Longview that has been hardest-hit by water quality problems. The City of Longview plans to replace the mains on Beech Street from 14th to 20th Avenue, and in the alley between 16th and 17th, going from Beech to Nichols. Work will start on Beech Street at 14th, and will be done in stages, connecting new services to the new mains as soon as possible. Work will continue six days a week, with a projected finish date of January 11th of next year. Lane closures can be expected on Oregon Way, Beech Street and Baltimore Street as this work proceeds; installation of pipe across Oregon Way will be done at night, to minimize traffic disruptions. Local access will be maintained during the construction. You should use alternate routes to avoid traffic delays.
