Friday:
The Humane Society of Cowlitz County will be set up in the old Fibre Federal space at the Three Rivers Mall on Friday and Saturday, offering cats and dogs for adoption. All of the animals are current on their shots and have been micro-chipped; all cats have also been spayed or neutered.

The kids can hang out with Santa and his elves Friday afternoon at the Rose Valley Grange. This will run from 4 to 6 pm, and will be open for all area kids.

“The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge” runs this weekend at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, a collaboration between the Columbia Theatre and the Love Street Playhouse in Woodland. This rollicking courtroom farce runs Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 pm, along with 2 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Contact the Columbia Theatre for ticket information.

Stageworks Northwest continues its production of “A Tuna Christmas,” which will run each weekend at the Longview Theatre through the 29th. Curtain is 7:30 pm tonight and tomorrow, along with a 2 pm Sunday matinee.

Rising Star Productions presents “Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas” on Friday and Saturday at the Three Rivers Mall, in their performance space near the Macy’s store. This come from Robert Fulghum, the man who wrote “Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.” Curtain is set for 7:30 pm; the production runs each weekend through the 21st.

From 9 to 11 pm on Friday night, the Southwest Washington Family YMCA is putting on a “Rock-and-Roll” teen swim event. This is open to kids from sixth grade to 17 years of age only, with school ID required. Youths without student ID will need to be checked in by a parent. Kids can bring in their own CD’s, but the lifeguards will determine if the music is appropriate. Call the Y at 423-4770 for more information.

Friday night, choirs from R. A. Long and Mark Morris High Schools will perform at The Grotto in Portland. R. A. Long’s Men’s Choir, Advanced Women’s Choir and “Chor Diem” will be singing at 5:50 pm. The After Hours, Advanced Mixed and “Vivace” choirs from Mark Morris are scheduled to perform at 9 pm. The Grotto Catholic shrine is located just east of 82nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard in Portland, just off I-205.

Saturday:
The Kelso First Baptist Church is putting on its monthly “Soup’s On” event on Saturday, opening its doors at 11:30 am and serving lunch until 1 pm. They’ll also have the doors open on their clothes closet for people who might have a need. The Kelso First Baptist Church is located at the corner of South 4th and Vine.

From 10 am until 2 pm on Saturday, Santa will be set up at The Castle in Clatskanie; they’ll also be serving cocoa for the kids and coffee for the parents. The Castle also serves as the Clatskanie Senior Center, and is located at 620 Southwest Tichenor Street.

The Southwest Washington Symphony will be accompanied by a 47-voice choir and a handbell group when they present at Christmas Concert Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Longview Community Church. Saturday’s performance is at 7 pm, and at 3 pm on Sunday. Donations for the Salvation Army and Community House on Broadway will be accepted at the door.
