Students from Mark Morris and R. A. Long High Schools will be fanning out across the area Saturday morning, as the week-long Civil War Food Drive gets under way. The students are kicking things off with a Walk-n-Knock, with a goal of collecting 100,000 pounds of food and $15,000 in cash donations for the Help Food Warehouse. Donation bins are also being set up at the Longview Fred Meyer store.

You can get breakfast and help out the MM/RAL Graduation Celebration Committee by going to Applebee’s on Saturday morning. They’re hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser, with a portion of the restaurant’s proceeds helping to support the Committee. Tickets will be available at the door of the restaurant.

Signups for this year’s edition of Castle Rock/Toutle Lake Girls Softball starts this weekend, going from noon to 4 pm on Saturday at the North County Recreation Complex, next to Castle Rock High School. Other regular signup dates are on February 8th, 9th and 15th. Late signups will also be accepted later in the month, but there will be an extra $50 fee for late signups. The first Angel Closet Dress Giveaway of the year is planned for this Saturday. Local girls can get formal dresses for Winter Ball or upcoming Proms by heading to the Angel Closet at 1811 Washington Way in Longview between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday. The Lower Columbia College Hall of Fame Class of 2014 will be honored Saturday night at the Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center in Kelso. Four former LCC standouts will be inducted in this year’s class. The social hour starts at 6:30 pm, followed by the dinner and program at 7:30 pm. Call 442-2112 for reservation information.

There’s a Community Comedy Night planned for Saturday night at the Rose Center for the Arts, featuring nationally-known comedian Sammy Obeid. He’s performed with a number of A-list comedians, also appearing on shows like “Conan” and “America’s Got Talent.” Showtime is set for 7 pm on Saturday. Get tickets at the LCC Student Center, or at the Rose Center box office on the night of the show.
