The annual Salal Spring Arts Festival takes place on Friday at Lower Columbia College, running from noon until 6 pm. Poet Joseph Green is the featured artist, holding a writing workshop and reading. There will be demonstrations by participating artists, live entertainment and the rollout of the 2015 “Salal Review” arts magazine at 4:30 pm. Admission is free.
The Kelso High School Theater Department presents the Steven Sondheim-James LaPine musical “Into the Woods” at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday night, along with a 2 pm Saturday matinee. “VIP seating” will also be available for the shows in the Kelso High School Auditorium. Don Correll’s final production at Lower Columbia College opens this weekend, presenting a melodrama titled “Egad, the Woman in White.” The curtain rises on the Center Stage Theatre at the Rose Center at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday nights. The production continues for the next two weekends, as well. Admission is free for LCC students and staff.

Friday evening at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, the dancers from the Evergreen Dance Studio in Longview will present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” a ballet production that will involve around 100 local dance students. The Mt. Solo Middle School PTSO and Spencer’s HeartStrong Foundation are putting on a fun and “colorful” run on Saturday, presenting the “2015 Color Course.” Runners are advised to “wear white,” as they will be showered with colored neon powder at different locations around the course. The 8th annual “Run the Path” Mental Health Awareness Walk is planned for Saturday morning at Lake Sacajawea. There’s a 3.6-mile fun run, or you can just walk a section of the path around the lake. They’ll also have informational booths, prize giveaways, and the first 150 participants will get a T-shirt. It’s free to take part.
The second Distribution Event for this year’s Longview Cardboard Boat Regatta is planned for this Saturday, starting at 10 am at the National Guard Armory on Vandercook Way. You’ll also have a chance to get signed up for this year’s Regatta at the event. Be sure to bring gloves, wear long-sleeve shirts to reduce the paper cuts, and have something for securing your load. At the historic Pearson Airpark down in Vancouver, the Fort Vancouver National Trust is holding its annual “Open Cockpit Day,” showing off historic aircraft, and giving you a chance to experience these planes from the pilot’s perspective. They’ll also be offering free airplane rides for kids between the ages of 8 and 17. This runs from 9 am until 3 pm on Saturday, and admission is free.

The students of the High Step Dance Academy will present Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” in a ballet recital that’s planned for Saturday night at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Cowlitz Community Farmers Market will be open on Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm, set up in the 7th Avenue parking lot across from the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds. The Kelso Bridge Market is open on Sunday in its new venue at the Three Rivers Mall. This year, the Bridge Market is operating in the space across from the new Three Rivers Cinema, open from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday near the Southwest door of the mall. They’ll have special bouquets for sale this weekend, along with local strawberries, fresh produce, plant starts, hand-made craft items and other specialty items.
