With more than 1,000 kids taking part, the 12th annual Cowlitz Kickoff Classic Soccer Tournament gets under way on Friday at 7th Avenue Park in Longview, and will continue through Sunday. 58 teams will be involved, with teams from U11 to U19. Admission is free.
It’s the big weekend up at the Castle Rock Race Park, with the AMA Grand National Championships coming to town. Amateur races are planned for Friday night, and then the pros will hit the track tomorrow, capped off by the GNC TT Race at around 10 pm on Saturday. Check with the folks at the Race Park for ticket information.
There are several things going on in Clatskanie, starting with the 17th annual Clatskanie Bluegrass Festival, which will run through Sunday at the Clatskanie City Park. Admission is free.
The Clatskanie Quilt Show is planned for Friday and Saturday at American Legion Hall, open from 10 until 4 pm each day. You can also buy raffle tickets, for items to be given away on the 15th of this month.
The Friends of the Clatskanie Library are holding their “Buck-a-Book Sale” on Friday at the Library on Lillich Street, going from 10 am to 5 pm. Saturday, that changes to the “buck-a-box or bag” sale, going from 10 am until 3 pm.
It’s an annual Longview tradition, the Terry-Taylor Garage Sale, going from 8 am to 4 pm throughout the neighborhood off of Pacific Way near John Null Park. Dozens of local residents are taking part, with many looking to raise money for local charities. Watch for heavy traffic, along with temporary routing and parking changes.
Mothers and sons of all ages are invited to Lake Sacajawea on Saturday, as Longview Parks and Rec teams up with J. H. Kelly for the annual Mother and Son Outdoor Adventure. This runs from 11 am until 2:30 pm. Contact Longview Parks and Rec for signup information.
Saturday night at the Cowlitz County Expo Center, one of Kelso’s favorite sons will be looking to raise some money for the Dino Doozer Foundation. Cort Carpenter and the Triple C Band will headline a benefit concert, with the doors opening at 6 pm, and going into the night. Tickets are available at Bob’s, Zojo’s Coffee, Kim’s Hair and Nails, or at the door. This is a 21 and over event.
Down at the Deer Island Stock Ranch, they’re once again holding the Black Tie and Blue Jeans fundraiser for the Columbia Learning Center. Tickets are available at Avenue 30 in Scappoose, Insurance Services Northwest in St. Helens and at the Columbia Learning Center itself. Along with dinner and live music, they’ll be having auctions for all kinds of cool stuff.
Down in Woodland, the Historical Museum Society is holding a Garage Sale at the museum on Park Street, starting at 9 am.
The Cowlitz Community Farmers Market is taking this Saturday off, due to the Cowlitz County Fair, but they’ll be back next week, open from 9 am until 2 pm on Tuesday and Saturday in the parking lot on 7th Avenue across from the Fairgrounds. The market runs through October. Berry season is in high gear, fresh peaches are coming in, and the local produce is really starting to roll in.
Catch the Downtown Farmers Market on Sunday, set up in the parking lot at 15th and Broadway, across from the Longview City Hall. Along with the fresh flowers, hanging baskets, plant starts and handmade crafts, local berries and other fresh produce is expected to be in this weekend. Hours are 10 am to 3pm on Sunday.
