After submitting a bid that came in nearly a half-million dollars below the engineer’s estimate, Rotschy, Incorporated of Vancouver is being awarded the contract for the first phase of the West Main Street Realignment Project in Kelso. Kelso City Engineer Mike Kardas says that you can probably expect to see work begin in mid-to-late October…wmaincontract…Rotschy’s bid for this phase of the project came in at $4.2 million, $448,000 below the estimate. Kardas says that the main feature of this first phase will be the shift of traffic from West Main to Catlin Street. This first phase will be working between the Allen Street Bridge and West 4th Avenue. The bulk of project funding is coming from a Transportation Improvement Board grant, along with a Department of Transportation Quick Response Safety Grant. Kardas says that work continues to obtain funding to complete the project; he says that getting this first phase done will help improve their chances of acquiring additional sources of outside funding.
