Local kids should be heading over to the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts this morning, so they can audition for an upcoming performance of “The Wizard of Oz,” being put on by the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Dozens of kids are needed for the production, with casting for the roles of Dorothy, Toto, the Lion, the Tin Man, the Professor/Wizard, the Green Guard, Glinda, the Wicked Witch, Munchkins, the Winkies, the Magicians and the Fierce and Ferocious Flowers. All area students from 1st through 12th grades are encouraged to audition, with performances planned for this Saturday at 3 and 5:30 pm. No advance preparation or experience is needed; the skilled professionals of the MCT will guide the kids through daily rehearsals, and will also provide costumes, scenery, props and makeup. Kids who would like to audition should be at the Columbia Theatre by 9:45 this morning, and then the auditions will run from 10 am until noon. Rehearsals will go from 10 am until 2:30 pm each day through the rest of the week. Some cast members may be asked to stay for an immediate rehearsal following today’s audition. Registration forms are available on the CTPA website, or call 575-8499 for more information.
