The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate last night’s fatal car crash in the 7000 block of West Side Highway, now saying that excessive speed was clearly a factor in the incident. They’re identifying the woman killed in the crash as Brenda Osgood, 42, of Castle Rock. The initial investigation shows that she had been traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, and then lost control of her car. There were more than 300 feet of skid marks before her car skidded off the southbound shoulder of the road, slamming into a large tree. Osgood’s car came to rest about 30 feet off the highway, down in a ravine. At this point, they’re not sure of the possibility of driver impairment, but toxicology tests are pending.
