Members of the Southwest Washington Family YMCA had been scheduled to vote on a proposed merger with the Portland-based Columbia-Willamette YMCA, but that vote has been postponed. There’s been no reason put forward as to why the vote is being put off at this time. The proposal came out several weeks ago, as the local YMCA continues to deal with leadership issues, an embezzlement scandal, declining enrollment and significant capital needs for the building on 15th Avenue. After the current board announced its plans to merge with the organization in Portland, a number of local members and former board members came forward, saying that they think the facility should remain under local management. There’s been no word yet as to when another vote might be scheduled.
