Youth Suicide Prevention

Posted on 29th November 2010 at 08:51

There’s a workshop on Youth Suicide Prevention planned for this evening at the Cowlitz PUD Auditorium. Statistics show that an average of two youth between the ages of 10 and 24 kill themselves each week in Washington state. One in every ten Washington high school students have reported attempting suicide, and nearly one in four have seriously considered it. More than 30 percent of gay and lesbian youth report at least one suicide attempt within the past year, and youth suicides outnumber youth homicides. Mary Jadwisiak is the field coordinator for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, and will discuss the free resources available in the local area. She’ll also provide training on youth suicide prevention. The workshop will also feature open discussion on how we call all work together to keep local kids safe from suicide. The Youth Suicide Prevention Workshop runs from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the PUD Auditorium. It’s free and open to anyone interested. Call 360-687-7954 for additional information.
